VP Sara Duterte Visits Cebu Shrine, Prays for Country, Bogo Recovery, and Former President Duterte’s Return
CEBU, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte recently made a personal visit to the historic Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer in Bogo City, Cebu, to offer prayers for the nation, local recovery efforts, and her family.
In a social media update, the Vice President shared photos of her “Church Visit,” where she was seen lighting candles and spending time in quiet reflection. According to her post, her prayers focused on national peace, the safety of Filipinos globally, and two major issues currently affecting her heart.
Praying for Bogo City’s Post-Earthquake Recovery
Among the Vice President’s primary intentions was the continuous rehabilitation of Bogo City following the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu last year.
VP Duterte noted that due to the severe structural damage sustained by the main church building, holy masses are currently being held in a temporary structure within the parish compound while restoration efforts are ongoing. She expressed solidarity with the local community as they continue to rebuild their lives and heritage sites.
A Daughter’s Prayer for Former President Duterte
In a highly personal note, the Vice President also revealed that she prayed extensively for the situation of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who remains under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
“Kasama rin sa ating mga dasal ang paguwi ni Dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa ating bayan,” VP Duterte stated, expressing her hope for her father’s eventual return to the Philippines.
The spiritual visit took place amidst the Vice President’s official engagements in the province of Cebu and ahead of her upcoming political trials back in the capital.
